Little Reds Basket

I LOVE making things and I have too many ideas in my head of things i want to create. Not only machine sewing, but hand sewing, knitting, crochet, I just never get the time to do it all. So i tend to do a bit of all of them and not stick to just one thing. You can probably see that from our Facebook  page. So i have decided to do a post that i will do maybe once a week or every two weeks called Little Reds Basket. It is going to be about what i am Knitting or crocheting at the time. So lets go......

I have decided to make my little man a crochet blanket. It is something that i have wanted to do for him since i was pregnant but never had time to do. I have finally decided on a pattern, i didn't want it to be too girly. I only have two of the colours i will be using so i have to get to the shop so i can get some more. I have it pictured in my head so i decided to start it without all of my yarn. Dangerous i know!

The First Three Granny Squares

I really love these two colours together.

Fourth Granny square halfway done.
I have four more granny squares to do in this colour combo.
I will post some more pics as i go. Can't wait to see how it turns out.

And thats what is in Little Reds Basket at the moment.

See you Soon

Monday AGAIN!!!!!!!!

WOW!!!!! Doesnt time fly! I cant Believe that it is Monday yet again. The weeks are going so fast and it will be Christmas before we know it! I thought that i better sit down and mark all the important dates in my diary so that i don''t forget. My little munchkin starts school next year ( scary!) and we have a get ready for prep day coming up soon that we cant miss, we are also going to Melbourne for a special birthday party in Dec and 3 days after we get back we are off to the beach for a week. We never go on holidays and its seems we are going on 2 in the same month! So along with the important dates there are the usual everyday things that go along with having a 4 year old and a 3 month old! Sometimes i find it hard to sit down and sew but i do get to do it little at a time and this week i will have finished another new little friend for the collection! She is very cute and i cant wait to show her to you. Her name is Aziza! Here is a sneak peak.......

That is all i will give you, but if you know our other softies then you will have an idea.

So as you know i love Monday to plan my week and feel positive like things are on track! ha...  So i think that i'm ready for a great week. I hope that you all have a great week too!!!!  I will be back when Aziza is finished to introduce her properly.

Happy Monday!

Little Red Hood Supplies Now OPEN!

Yey! Little Red Hood Supplies has now officially Opened on Craftumi! I am very excited i have to say. It is a place to find Fabric, Books(soon), Cross Stitch Kits, Children's Craft and i am sure a whole lot more.

My first range of fabric is from Michael Miller

The Flora and Fauna Range by Patty Young. I love the Hummingbirds!
There is also some Robert Kaufman and Anna Griffin Mackenzie Christmas Range.

I am also going to have some wonderful Children's Craft Kits because i think that they are hard to find and lots of children would love them. I remember doing all different types of craft when i was little, from Cross Stitch to knitting to paper making to decorating Christmas boxes and making wreaths. I know that when my daughter sees me sew she wants to join in and when i knit or crochet, she wants to do that too and she is only 4.I think that if our children see us create and make things with our own hands then it is passed on to them and hopefully it will keep going and going for generations. So i think it is important to have the products that help our children create and express themselves in craft. You can find some of the products i will be bringing in on our Facebook page.

This Super-Cute Crochet kit comes in a gorgeous tin with everything you need to make the cute little kitty. How good is that!

This is a Hello Kitty Cross Stitch Kit that comes with the cotton and everything. Also very cute!

And this is another Super-Cute Sewing kit that comes in a cute tin and has everything you need to make your own little Babushka Dolls! Don't you just love them! Very cool gifts for Christmas i think!

I want my Supplies store to be a place for all things craft and especially a place for different products sourced from all over the globe. If there is ever anything you are looking for but cant find then i would love to try to find it for you!
So Welcome to Little Red Hood Supplies and i hope you find some exciting products that you never knew existed and cant wait to create with.

Book Report - "The Four Agreements"

Today I wanted to share with everyone a book that really helped me out at a time when I needed a bit of direction in life.  I think the world would be a much better place if EVERYBODY took the time to read this book.  I treat it like a guide book, and re-read it when I feel like I am losing my way.

The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz is a wonderful little book that helps you stop self-limiting behaviours, and can be used as a simple guide for your own personal code of conduct.  It is graceful, beautifully written, and so honest.  The four agreements seem so obvious once you have read them, that it feels like Don Miguel is just giving you a gentle reminder of how to carry yourself in the world, and reminding you of what is really important.

The four agreements are -

  1. Be impeccable with your words.
  2. Don't take anything personally.
  3. Don't make assumptions.
  4. Always do your best.
This book felt like it was written for me.

From the cover of the book:
Be Impeccable With Your Word: Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your word in the direction of truth and love.
Don't Take Anything Personally: Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won't be the victim of needless suffering.
Don't Make Assumptions: Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want. Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness, and drama. With just this one agreement, you can completely transform your life.
Always Do Your Best: Your best is going to change from moment to moment; it will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick. Under any circumstance, simply do your best, and you will avoid self-judgment, self-abuse, and regret.

If you are like me, and you occasionally feel overwhelmed by the pressures of everyday life, and just need that little nudge to get your thought process back on track....this is the book for you!  I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Happy weekend!

The Farrah Dress is a halter dress that is available in MAXI,(ABOVE), MINI, or as a TOP,(BELOW). Both maxi's have hand crochet detail that looks stunning and adds a little bit of something special to our dresses. The leaf dress is a straight maxi where as the kaleidoscope dress has a ruffle at the ankles making it a little different. Each dress has a personality of its own and will not be created again in the same fabric or fabric combination, unless requested! All Farrah items have ties that can be wrapped to the front or back.

Hand Crochet detail.

Farrah Top

Farrah Mini Dress

We will be adding different fabric combinations and colours in the near future. Any suggestions would be welcome on colours you would like to see available in the Farrah Dress/Top.
They look very cute on your special little girl and we know she will love them and love to wear them as much as we love making them for you.

Renee the builder...putting together my new workspace!

This week has been a very busy week. A good week, because Sarah and I got together and did a lot of brainstorming about where we want Little Red Hood to go.  We also did a lot of laughing at each other 'til we cried (love those moments when you are so deliriously tired you can't stop laughing). One more day, and I finish my regular work week.  Ahhhh.  I can feel my body starting to relax already!  As for Little Red Hood, we are so excited to be making so much progress with our spring/summer clothing range.  But with all that sewing to do, I personally needed to create a space where I could stretch everything out.

So on my last break, my partner and I ventured off to the busiest store in Perth.  Ikea.  That place is best visited on a weekday I think.  It was packed!  I have a small room I am now using to create for Little Red Hood, so we wanted to find a table that would make the most of the space, and not cost a fortune.  Ikea is great because you can vary how you put a lot of their units together.  You can have drawers underneath, or cupboards, or add matching shelving.  It all depends on how much you want to spend and how you want your space set up.  I love it!

We decided to get a corner unit, and so far it is working out perfectly!  We got it all home in flat packs, and the man of the house set about teaching me how to put it all together! He is gorgeous!  Introducing me to the electric drill.  I love that thing!  Working together we slowly put it all together.

That's the first drawer, and I was pretty excited!  It's not as hard as I thought it would be.

Before long, it looked like this!  I know it looks like I am so proud because I put it together ALL BY MYSELF.  But the truth is I had a lot of help from my significant other : )

So many parts, for one little cupboard!  Thank goodness for picture instructions.

Putting together what becomes the comfiest chair IN THE WORLD, and starting to get a wee bit tired!

And....dadada da dada daaaaa!  Introducing my sewing room.  Ok, I know it needs that personal touch, a picture on the wall, a lamp or two.  But so far, I am incredibly happy with what we put together.  And when I have time to stop working, and sewing, I will pretty this baby up!  Will keep you posted on how it all comes together.

Hope you are having a wonderful weekend.  I am.

Cute little pillow!

This week I have been feeling a lot like this...

I lost a good friend, who was too young and too beautiful to say goodbye to.  It takes time for your heart to heal from such a big loss, and tears flow daily as memories come flooding back.  Nathan Wills was 20 years of age, and passed away suddenly in a car accident. My partner and I had adopted him as our little brother, when he lived with us last year, while he was in Australia on a working holiday from Wales.

He was a big ray of sunshine in our life.  Funny, loveable, and completely naive!  We took him under our wing.  My partner spent a lot of 'blokey' time with him, teaching him things a man needs to know.  And I just loved him and looked out for him like any good big sister does! Loved him lots!

Amongst all this I have had a terrible flu, which lead to a cough that put my neck out!  This week has literally been a pain in the neck, and I am glad to bid it adieu!

Tomorrow I head off to see my family and get a smile on my dial, courtesy of a little bit of this...

How could this face NOT make you smile :)  Some hugs and kisses from my niece and nephew, and some quality time with the rest of my family, are the perfect prescription for a happier me!

I did do a little bit of sewing this week.  I made a cute little cushion!  A pin cushion that is!  I REALLY needed one, and the ones in the shops were pretty daggy (although I do love those little china man pin cushions), so I decided to make one myself.  I got the pattern for this one from Heather Bailey.  It is super cute, and super bright.

What do you think?

Well it is time for me to pack a bag and iron the uniform.  Oh the glamorous life of a flight attendant....*sigh*!  I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.  Just remember, life is precious, live every moment of it in a way that makes you happy.

Tuesday is Library Day!

My four year old daughter Safaya loves going to the Library for Story time and Craft every Tuesday! So now Tuesday has a new name in our house, yep you guessed it its Library Day!

Story Time.

I love seeing what books she chooses each week. We have had ALL of the Dinosaur books out, most of the "Sea Creature" ones and allot of others too. Today she chose  Elmer's Special Day, about an Elephant, Iris and Isaac, about Polar Bears and Savannah Dreams which is an Australian Indigenous book.

Craft Time is always fun, here she made an Elephant with a swinging trunk. She loooooooves craft.

We are really lucky to have free events at the Library, it is our special must do day for Safaya until she starts school next year. (what a step that will be, she cant wait )
Thanks for coming on a small journey with us on our Must Do day of the week.

Is there something that you have to do each week that has become a routine for you or your family?
